Open-Enrollment Workshops

We offer the Williams LifeSkills 12-hour Workshop at our facility in Durham, NC, for individuals who enroll on their own. This training is recognized by the Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations as one of fifteen model programs. Our format provides opportunities for hands-on practice and features many learning aids, including as text Lifeskills (Times Books, 1997).

This workshop helps with:

  • Anger;
  • Getting along with others at work or home;
  • Dealing with authority;
  • Standing up for yourself;
  • Problems with work performance;
  • Handling stress;
  • Disease management in:
    • Stress-related illnesses such as high blood pressure, headaches, back pain, chronic fatigue and gastrointestinal discomfort;
    • Chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, and rheumatoid arthritis;
    • Illnesses that defy diagnosis.
  • Not getting derailed as you pursue:
    • Weight loss;
    • Smoking cessation;
    • Cardiac rehabilitation.

You will learn to:

  • Identify your thoughts and feelings;
  • Evaluate your negative feelings, negative thoughts, and options;
  • Empathize with others to understand behavior;
  • Do problem-solving: how to define the problem, generate alternatives, and evaluate outcomes;
  • Practice assertion;
  • Say no and make it stick;
  • Communicate better: speak in ways that get you heard; really listen; read others accurately;
  • Emphasize the positive: how to build better relationships using a proven ratio of positive to negative interactions.
