Skills for Life

As the name Williams LifeSkills might suggest, the primary and broad goal of the group is to provide life skill training and education. These are not simply courses to pass through and forget; we offer programs and experiences to help you improve yourself and manage your life in a productive way by improving your life skills.

A life skill is something you generally learn through the lessons of life. However, not everyone gets the life education or life skills that others do, and therefore have more trouble with management and development of everyday life. Williams LifeSkills is here to help with exactly that type of problem, to allow you to properly manage and develop your own emotions and mold yourself into the person you want to be by improving your life skills.

Williams LifeSkills was founded by renowned researcher and physician Redford Williams and educator/historian Virginia Williams. Redford is a Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Duke University Medical Center. Virginia, President of Williams LifeSkills, is a cultural historian and writer.

Together, they have written the best-selling Anger Kills: 17 Strategies to Control the Hostility That Can Harm Your Health, and LifeSkills: 8 Simple Ways to Build Stronger Relationships, Communicate More Clearly and Improve Your Health.

The Williams have organized and led hundreds of workshops around the world for corporations, government agencies and individuals seeking to improve their life skills. Their message has reached a broader public through a number of other forums. The have been interviewed locally, nationally and internationally, and have appeared on Oprah, ABC's 20/20, Dateline NBC, The Today Show and Good Morning America. They have also been featured in respected national newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal.

Providing Tailored Training Workshops

Williams LifeSkills provides tailored life skill training workshops and consulting designed to address key issues affecting us in the workplace and at home:

  • What will allow us to communicate more clearly?
  • How do we overcome anger and other negative emotions?
  • How can we live healthier, happier and more productive lives?
  • How can we develop skills that allow us to cultivate our emotional intelligence?

Williams LifeSkills provides hands-on life skills training designed to provide people with the skills they need - the emotional intelligence, as author Dan Goleman describes it - to lead healthier, happier lives at work and at home. We offer services to corporations, government agencies, healthcare facilities and individuals.

Company Mission Statement

Williams LifeSkills, Inc. was created to optimize and improve the health and welfare of individuals or groups of individuals who:

  • Are employers or employees who could benefit by increasing the level of emotional competence in the workplace;
  • Are individuals identified as hostile, depressed, anxious, or socially isolated, who are not mentally ill, who wish to change;
  • May be at risk for developing or have a disease in which stress plays a role, such as cardiovascular disease;
  • Are in a behavioral change program such as smoking cessation, weight loss, or drug rehabilitation;
  • Are members of a group identified as being at risk for high levels of stress, such as caregivers or cultures that are undergoing rapid change.

Williams LifeSkills, Inc. will research, develop, market, and disseminate training products appropriate for individuals and groups based on the 10 point Williams LifeSkills system.
